sick daze (and split second appearances)

it seems like i have spent half of 2010 sick thus far. i can't imagine why i deserve this, but this weekend was filled with a fresh bout of something ghastly. i lay around, shivered and watched docudramas about early canadian settlers and their constant trials (like, cholera). thankfully, i just had to sleep a lot with my cat nearby and nobody tried any bloodletting on me. i should count myself lucky.

during my latest illness, i did find time to materialize like a phantasm in a couple of split second internet appearances. see if you can spot me in this excellent interview serena did about small venues, touring, and artistic understanding. don't blink, though, or you will miss me (don't worry, i really have nothing to do with this). i also appear momentarily and inconsequentially in the preview of rose bianchini's documentary about misha glouberman and how he likes to make people yell. they are both very great projects that i am honoured to have ever insinuated myself into.

oh, and up there are some aloe sprouts i discovered today when i was well enough to scale our couch, prune the plants and water them. they seem to be reacting to their recent repotting with gusto. i hope to have a large aloe shrub in no time. it is also nice to see any kind of sprouts this early in the year, especially when i feel so sickly and depleted. there is hope for everyone.

cat nap.

yeah, i take pictures of my cat. what can i say? show does weird things all the time, like falling asleep on the pouch i got from biggie at art vs. craft last year.

also of note today, aitor and i got called out as an orch-folk couple on the blog run by the merch masters touring with the magnetic fields. i guess prairie glam is over.

well, back to making things and packing orders...

snap, crackle, poppies.

hey weekenders, just a quick note to say that i have been nominated for the poppies - a brand new online awards (and consciousness raising) thingy launched by the good folks over at poppytalk blog. i was even nominated in two categories, accessories and artist's blog!

my friend stephanie did raise some gentle yet valid concerns about competition in the craft community. in fairness to the poppytalk crew, i will share this quote from the notification email i was sent: "it's not intended to be a competition as much as to bring more awareness to the handmade community." i have to say, i have not felt the thrust of handmade blood-lust yet.

for my part, awareness growth has been the great boon of this initiative. i have seen a bunch of new traffic to my sites and (more importantly) have been overwhelmed going through the links in each category. there are lots of friends in the mix (indeed too many to mention), and i highly recommend a jog through the categories that most interest you - or all of them!

and if you want to vote for me, you can do so here and here.
