trans-atlantic event alert!

little leah is putting the last touches on the wunderkabinet way over the ocean in berlin. those stalking me will remember that i contributed both gold toof buttons and some button sets to the first ever curiosity cabinet/group show in history*. there are a bunch of familiar friends/geniuses in the show, too (tara, shannon, lee, saddle, shannah), and i am chuffed to be in their companies. i am really excited about the show and am proud of leah for letting yet another of her wonderful ideas out into the world. i will even get to see it in about a month!

for those interested, i think she might be accepting proposals for round two (opening in january) now. me, i have crochet schemes for that kabinet.

*totally not true. in fact, i have a date to check out the dazzle at narwhal art project in toronto over the weekend. great minds curate alike.

i just got word that my little package of crafty curiosities has arrived safely and soundly in berlin for the first instalment of the wunderkabinet. i contributed that collection of loose gold toofs buttons (above) and some artist sets to be sold on the side.

what's more? due to some much-needed physical changes and updates going on at the space in which the kabinet is housed, the entire show timeline has been pushed back a month. this is good news for you if you are just hearing about it now and want to submit some small crafty artifacts. the project is now accepting submissions through august 18, 2010.

leah is one of my best friends and a creative dynamo of the most reliable sort, in case you needed any more assurances.

loose ends.

as i waddled about queen street with my button bags in tow, i manged a quick visit into the knit cafe today. guess what? the hang for hive series #1 (my big crocheted triangle) has been extended a bit. the next window display was being done in-house so they are going to call the change over as their whims dictate. enjoy more triangle, queen street west!

while i was taking it, that first picture there reminded me of serena's picture of main street, bruno. serena's picture is grander than mine, but it's so rare to get a 'main street, bruno' feeling in big ol' toronto.

it's finally up! my headaches are still with me and this shift in temperature really explains it. the first big crochet triangle thing from my hive series project found its way to the knit cafe's window on this drizzly afternoon.

it was too soggy out and my head hurt too much to take more pictures. i will have to come back on a nicer day. but here it is. go visit! say hi! stare and scratch your head!

hey world. guess what? now that i am finally caught up on some administrative things (it's a long story that involves timing and family trauma) the security envelope project has finally been able to grow into a long-awaited second phase. please behold the do-it-yourself security envelope installation kit. here at the sweetie pie press, we aim to make your weird decorating impulses easier to achieve through carefully mapped out (and easy to install) projects.

taking its inspiration from the trials and tribulations of doing this (like this), the idea for these smaller scale at-home installations came from the notion that even installation-based projects should be easy and accessible (in some instances, at any rate). at this smaller size, it was easy to refine the installation process and make it less gruelling, too.

today shan and i went and threw the toronto hyperbolic crochet reef back into it's special trunk. it was sad. the fly gallery was a great month-long home to the reef and scott and tanya could not have been more lovely to deal with. big thanks go out tot tara, too, for hooking up the installation as part of the city of craft installation programming.
